NeuropsicologÃa: Mirando hacia adelante

A pesar de que la práctica de la neuropsicologÃa clÃnica no ha cambiado mucho en las últimas décadas, el estudio de los mecanismos básicos de la percepción y cognición ha emigrado hacia nuevos campos, por ejemplo la psicologÃa cognitiva, la neuropsicologÃa cognitiva, y las neurociencias cognitivas. Con el desarrollo y mejoramiento de las neuroimágenes estructurales y funcionales, las ciencias cognitivas, la computación y bioinformática, la genética, la proteómica, la conectómica, y la biologÃa celular molecular, la neuropsicologÃa ha quedado excluida de los avances actuales y a su vez ha sido relegada a la evaluación clÃnica de pacientes con trastornos cognitivos, que son causados por una variedad de patologÃas que incluyen las enfermedades degenerativas, el traumatismo cerebral, las infecciones del sistema nervioso, el cáncer, asà como una amplia lista de enfermedades inmunológicas, genéticas y del desarrollo.
