Guidelines for authors

 

Cuadernos de Neuropsicología / Panamerican Journal of Neuropsychology (CNPs) is a quarterly publication whose objective is the dissemination of research and reflections on neuroscience and its integration into psychology. 

CNPs publishes original articles, reviews, reviews, case studies, and interviews that attempt to clarify the relationships between the nervous system, mental processes, and human behavior. Thus, works from disciplines such as neurology, cognitive sciences, psychogerontology and developmental neuropsychology are relevant to our publication. CNPs also consider publishing papers from other disciplines related to mental and behavioral health.

Manuscripts must be unpublished, that is, not previously published or submitted simultaneously to another journal. This publication does not apply or charge authors for the publication process (Article Processing Charges - APCs).

CNPs is a journal with a reading committee: each article is evaluated by at least two reviewers, maintaining the anonymity of authors and referees (peer review).

CNPs publishes works in Spanish, English and Portuguese. It is the author who ensures the correct writing of the text when the language is different from Spanish.

CNPs is a founding member publication of the Chilean Association of Scientific Magazines of Psychology and is indexed in INFOCyT, PEPSIC, CLASE, E-Magazines, DIALNET, EBSCO, Latindex catalog, FEAP, DOAJ, PSICODOC, among others.

As for the General Standards for publication, CNPs use the guidelines of the American Psychological Association (APA) in its sixth edition (American Psychological Association, 2009). Our Journal follows the recommendations of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) for the report, edition and publication of academic works. CNPs reserves the right to withdraw and withdraw any article that violates the Code of Good Scientific Practice.

Submission of Works

 

All articles must be sent by e-mail to cuadernos@neuropsicologia.cl A confirmation of receipt must be received. Since e-mails do not always reach their destination, a direct response from the receipt of the material should be insisted on. All communication will be made with the first author, unless otherwise indicated by the authors. The editor's support email is polanco.roberto@gmail.com in case of problems in connecting to the magazine's email.

Peer Review Process

Each article will be evaluated by at least two reviewers, maintaining the anonymity of authors and referees. The estimated time for the first response will be no less than 31 days from the moment the receipt of the item has been confirmed. 

Before the final publication, the authors will receive a trial version (draft) of their article, in order to make the observations they deem pertinent regarding the final edition.

The reviewers' evaluation report may indicate that the article has been:

• ACCEPTED as is or with minor styling adjustments.
• ACCEPTED WITH OBSERVATIONS.
• NOT ACCEPTED WITH OBSERVATIONS but suggests that it be presented again since potential is observed in the approaches.
• NOT ACCEPTED.

If the article has been ACCEPTED, the author must make the indicated adjustments and send an email to the editor with the corrected file and a letter indicating the corrections made. Once confirmed by the Editor, the article is considered “In Press” or in “Publication Process”.

1. ACCEPTED WITH OBSERVATIONS: the author must make the adjustments indicated by the reviewers and send both the article with the corrections and a letter indicating the modifications and adjustments to the suggestions made. Once this material has been reviewed by the Editorial Committee, a response is sent to the author, either to classify it as ACCEPTED (and to move to In Press or In Publication Process) or to make new corrections.

2. NOT ACCEPTED WITH OBSERVATIONS: it is the one that, although the reviewers consider that it is not in a position to be published due to the fact that it requires major modifications, it may be of such interest that its new presentation is recommended for a later issue. Regarding modifications, the editorial body of CNPs is available to guide and support the improvement of the article forachieve your publication.

3. NOT ACCEPTED, the author is free to take the decisions he wishes regarding his material.

Ethical aspects 

The publications of CNPs will comply with ethical criteria, both in terms of animal and human research, and especially in everything related to professional deontology. In the case of research involving clinical participants, the names and actual initials of the patients should not be used. The authors are assumed to have performed the informed consent and data protection procedures throughout their investigations. These aspects must be reflected in the article in the method section.

Structure and presentation of the document 

When submitting your manuscript consider:

1. Use the format that appears by default in Word avoiding the edition of the text (capital letters for emphasis, special titling, special effects).

2. The manuscript must be complete with continuous text indicating where tables or figures go, which will be included in the same file but at the end of the document marked and with their description.

3. No title, subtitle, or names should be capitalized, only the ACRONYMS. 

4. The affiliation must be indicated with a number (not special symbols) and must be SEPARATED from the list of authors on a separate page (third page). In the event that any author has a particular way of signing their manuscripts, for example compound surname (Polanco-Carrasco), they must explicitly indicate this at the end of the affiliation.

5. Keywords are separated with “;” (semicolon) Structure and presentation of the document 

6. Acronyms must be described the first time they appear in the text. 

7. Statistics (ρ, α, among others) should be written in italics.

8. All pages must be numbered consecutively.

9. Avoid using italics in Latin expressions (et. Al; in vivo). The use of italics is assumed only to emphasize a word or idea, in any other case omit it (highlight it by highlighting it in yellow).

10. Decimals must be either comma (Spanish) or period (English), keeping the previous zero.

11. Save the file in RTF format, as final version, without change control activated.

First page:

1. Title of the work in Spanish (if possible in English and Portuguese)

2. Authors: name and first surname of the authors, academic and / or professional degree or qualification, sign of affiliation when appropriate.

Second page:

1. Affiliation: name and address of the institution, referring to each author's affiliation if there is more than one.

2. Correspondence: name and surname of the author responsible for correspondence, email and postal address.

3. Acknowledgments (if any).

4. Short title of the work in the language of the text.

Third page and following:

1. Title of the work in the language of the text.

2. Summary in language of the text (150 to 175 words). Reviews, Letters and Off Topics do not require a summary or keywords.

3. Keywords, between three and eight in the language of the text. The type of article must be included.

4. Summary and keywords in alternative language (150 to 175 words). If the text is not written in English, the second summary and the key words must be written in English as well as.

Remaining pages:

1. It is not necessary to title the beginning as Introduction.

2. The manuscript text continues, divided into the sections delimited according to the type of document (clinical case, review, research report).

3. Tables and figures in correlative numbering, must be referred to in the text indicating the place of appearance. And included after the references, at the end of the document, each table or figure on a separate page.

General characteristics of the sections and articles

The length of the different sections basically refers to their content, excluding cover, summary, references, tables and figures.

Editorial

Of free style and length, it is requested from an author of interest by the editorial body.

Articles Research reports or Empirical Articles

 

Its length must be close to 8,000 words and must follow the following structure:

1. Summary: Extension between 150 to 175 words. Pointing out the topic of the article, problem or research question, justification; a summary of the methodology (type of study, sample, analysis procedures); main results and general conclusion.

The introduction, scope, justification and frame of reference are developed below and without title. This refers to the beginning of the text. You must answer the questions on the topic of the article, the state of the question, the importance of addressing the topic and the justification to the base of the question that is intended to be answered.

Along with informing what is going to be done dIt should clarify to the reader the subject of the publication and motivate its reading. It is advisable to superficially indicate the procedure performed.

This section, because it includes the bibliographic review, must contain a development of the main topics and objects of study with an adequate and updated number of bibliographic citations. Goals and hypotheses can be kindly stated.

Materials, Method and Procedures:

 

How the research was conducted and the safety of the methods used are discussed. In short, it should clarify what was done so that the research is replicable or that the achievement of the results is deeply understood. It includes the type of study, the population (place) and the sampling method. If it is an article of bibliometric analysis, the inclusion and exclusion criteria of articles and the databases used must be indicated. The instruments of measurement and intervention, quoting their authors. Procedures for research development and data analysis.

Results:

Detailed development of the data analysis results. It begins with the result of the sampling method and continues with the results that respond to the research objectives. It may be advisable to use tables and figures. Statistical results must have the corresponding information according to the test used. The minimum comments regarding the results should be used, being accepted only when they serve to facilitate understanding and reading.

Discussion:

 

It is usually the most extensive section. Here the results are reflected, analyzed and interpreted. The indicated state of the question is compared with the results obtained. Other publications are compared with the results obtained. New bibliography can be added if any phenomenon has not been addressed in the introductory framework. Causes and effects should be established, possible generalizations, technical and theoretical applications should be established, exceptions, suggestions and weaknesses of the study should be clarified.

Conclusions:

 

Briefly, the objects checked and those that are not are indicated. General results and applications are noted. It is usually a short section.

References:

Contains the material reviewed and used in the research. The presence of articles of no more than five years is recommended, except when their importance makes it necessary to include previous references. You must adhere to the APA Standards sixth edition.

Appendices, conflicts of interest:

 

It is possible to attach material of interest (e.g. questionnaires) or declare the presence or absence of conflicts of interest.

Theoretical Articles:

 

Its length must be close to 10,000 words and its structure is free. If the article is oriented to an empirical bibliographic review study or meta-analysis, its structure and length should follow that of a Research Report. At least you should have an introduction and conclusion. In the conclusion, the authors' opinion regarding the topic addressed in the article must be clearly expressed. In general, the topic to be embroidered, the different theories present, and the proposed model must be justified.

A fundamental element in a Theoretical Article is the breadth of the references, which must be current as well as include the fundamental publications on the subject.

Clinical cases

Its length must be around 4,000 words, considering the following sections:

Presentation:

By way of introduction, you should start with the importance of the Case or Problem in question and the answer that the article will provide (eg, diagnosis of treatment of the given situation).

Case Description:

The following section presents the specific characteristics of the Case presented, including sociodemographic, clinical data, and available test results.

Analysis and Discussion:

 

The responses, peculiarities and actions that are developed throughout the Clinical Case are presented. It is important that after reading the Clinical Case the reader has general and specific guidelines regarding how to act in a similar situation. The last paragraphs can be used to conclude.

Essays

 

Freely follow the guidelines outlined for Theoretical Articles.

Reviews or Reviews: Book Review

Its length should be around 3,000 words. The Book to review both its author and the main contents must be presented. References or recommended bibliography can be attached. It should be concluded with the opinion of the author of the review regarding the commented book.

Interviews

Of characteristics and variable length according to criteria of the editorial body.

Off-Topic

Artistic production in relation to the content of CNPs. Of characteristics and variable length according to criteria of the editorial body. It is possible to send artistic material such as drawing, painting, comic, poetry or narrative, among others. To themselvese accepts the comment of artistic expressions such as Theater or Movies that have any relation or relevance with the field that corresponds to the publication.

Letters and announcements of academic activities.

 

Of characteristics and variable length according to criteria of the editorial body. Emphasis is placed on the discussion on the contents of the magazine or the reflective comment on events that occurred in the world regarding the theme of the magazine.

General Work Format

 

- A4 page size (21 cm x 29.7 cm)

- Margin: 2.5 upper and lower.

- Times New Roman font, 12 pt

- Double-spaced and left-aligned text, except in tables and figures

- Two spaces after the end point of a sentence

- Indentation (Indent) to 5 spaces in all paragraphs

- Tables do not have lines separating cells (avoid horizontal lines)

Directrices para los autores

 

Cuadernos de Neuropsicología/Panamerican Journal of Neuropsychology (CNPs) es una publicación cuatrimestral cuyo objetivo es la difusión de investigaciones y reflexiones en torno a la neurociencia y su integración a la psicología.

CNPs publica artículos originales, revisiones, reseñas, estudios de caso y entrevistas que intenten esclarecer las relaciones entre sistema nervioso, procesos mentales y comportamiento humano. Así, los trabajos de disciplinas tales como la neurología, las ciencias cognitivas, la psicogerontología y la neuropsicología del desarrollo son pertinentes a nuestra publicación. CNPs también considera la publicación de trabajos de otras disciplinas relacionadas con la salud mental y el comportamiento.

Los manuscritos han de ser inéditos, es decir, no publicados con anterioridad ni presentados simultáneamente a otra revista. Esta publicación ni aplica ni cobra ningún tipo de cargo a los autores por el proceso de publicación (Article Processing Charges – APCs).

CNPs es una revista con comité de lectura: cada artículo es evaluado por, al menos, dos revisores, manteniéndose el anonimato de autores y árbitros (revisión por pares).

CNPs publica trabajos en español, inglés y portugués. Es el autor quien vela por la correcta redacción del texto cuando el idioma es diferente del español.

CNPs es una publicación miembro fundador de la Asociación Chilena de Revistas Científicas de Psicología y se encuentra indizada en INFOCyT, PEPSIC, CLASE, E-Revistas, DIALNET, EBSCO, Latindex catálogo, FEAP, DOAJ, PSICODOC, entre otras.

En cuanto a las Normas Generales de publicación CNPs utiliza las orientaciones de la American Psychological Association (APA) en su sexta edición (American Psychological Association, 2009). Nuestra Revista sigue las recomendaciones del International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) para el informe, edición y publicación de trabajos académicos. CNPs se reserva el derecho de retractación y retirada de cualquier artículo que vulnere el Código de Buenas Prácticas Científicas.

Envío de Trabajos 

Todo artículo debe ser enviado por e-mail a cuadernos@neuropsicologia.cl Se debe recibir una confirmación de recepción. Dado que los e-mails no siempre llegan a destino, se debe insistir en una respuesta directa de la recepción del material. Toda comunicación se realizará con el primer autor, a menos que sea indicado lo contrario por parte de los/as autores/as. El mail de respaldo del editor es polanco.roberto@gmail.com en caso de problemas en la conexión con el mail de la revista.

Proceso de Revisión de Pares

Cada artículo será evaluado por, al menos, dos revisores, manteniéndose el anonimato de autores y árbitros. El tiempo estimado para la primera respuesta será no menor a 31 días desde el momento en que se ha confirmado la recepción del artículo.

Antes de la publicación final, los autores recibirán una versión de prueba (borrador) de su artículo, de tal manera de hacer las observaciones que estimen pertinentes en torno a la edición final.

El informe de evaluación de los revisores puede señalar que el artículo ha sido:

• ACEPTADO como está o con pequeños ajustes de estilo. 
• ACEPTADO CON OBSERVACIONES. 
• NO ACEPTADO CON OBSERVACIONES pero sugiere que nuevamente sea presentado dado que se observa potencial en los planteamientos. 
• NO ACEPTADO.

Si el artículo ha sido ACEPTADO, el autor debe realizar los ajustes señalados y enviar un correo al editor con el archivo corregido y una carta indicando las correcciones realizadas. Una vez confirmada su recepción por el Editor, el artículo se considera “En Prensa” o en “Proceso de Publicación”.

1. ACEPTADO CON OBSERVACIONES: el autor debe realizar los ajustes señalados por los revisores y enviar tanto el artículo con las correcciones como una carta en donde se señalen las modificaciones y ajustes a las sugerencias planteadas. Una vez revisado ese material por el Comité Editorial se envía una respuesta al autor, ya sea para clasificarlo como ACEPTADO (y pasar a situación En Prensa o En Proceso de Publicación) o para que se realicen nuevas correcciones.

2. NO ACEPTADO CON OBSERVACIONES: es aquél que, si bien los revisores consideran que no está en condiciones de ser publicado debido a que requiere de modificaciones mayores, puede ser de tal interés que se recomienda su nueva presentación para un número ulterior. En cuanto a las modificaciones, el cuerpo editorial de CNPs se encuentra disponible para guiar y apoyar la mejora del artículo para lograr su publicación.

3. NO ACEPTADO, el autor queda en libertad de acción para tomar las decisiones que desee en cuanto a su material.

Aspectos Éticos

Las publicaciones de CNPs se ajustarán a los criterios éticos, tanto por lo que se refiere a la investigación animal como humana, y especialmente en todo lo relativo a la deontología profesional. En el caso de investigaciones con participantes clínicos, no deben utilizarse ni los nombres ni las iniciales reales de los pacientes. Se asume que los autores han realizado los procedimientos de consentimiento informado y protección de datos a lo largo de sus investigaciones. Estos aspectos deben ser reflejados en el articulo en el apartado de método.

Estructura y presentación del documento

Al momento de presentar su manuscrito considerar:

1. Utilizar el formato que aparece por defecto en Word evitando la edición del texto (mayúsculas para énfasis, titulación especial, efectos especiales).

2. El manuscrito debe estar completo con texto continuo indicando donde van tablas o figuras, las cuales se incluirán en el mismo archivo pero al final del documento señalizadas y con su descripción.

3. Ningún título, subtítulo, ni nombres debe encontrarse en mayúscula, solo las SIGLAS.

4. La filiación se debe señalar con un número (no símbolos especiales) y debe estar SEPARADO de la lista de autores en una página aparte (tercera página). En caso de que algún autor tenga una manera particular de firmar sus manuscritos, por ejemplo apellido compuesto (Polanco-Carrasco), debe señalarlo explícitamente al final de la afiliación.

5. Las palabras clave se separan con “;” (punto y coma) Estructura y presentación del documento

6. Las siglas deben describirse la primera vez que aparezcan en el texto.

7. Los estadísticos (ρ, α, entre otros) deben escribirse en cursiva.

8. Todas las páginas deber ir numeradas consecutivamente.

9. Evitar el uso de cursiva en expresiones latinas (et. al; in vivo). Se asume el uso de cursivas únicamente para dar énfasis a una palabra o idea, en cualquier otro caso omitirla (destacarla mediante destacado de color amarillo).

10. Los decimales deben ir ya sea con coma (español) o punto (inglés), manteniendo el cero previo.

11. Guardar el archivo en formato RTF, como versión final, sin control de cambios activado.

Primera página:
1. Título del trabajo en Castellano (si es posible en Inglés y Portugués)

2. Autores: nombre y primer apellido de los autores, grado o cualificación académica y/o profesional, signo de filiación cuando corresponda.

Segunda página:
1. Filiación: nombre y dirección de la institución, haciendo referencia con signo la filiación de cada autor si existe más de una.

2. Correspondencia: nombre y apellidos del autor responsable para la correspondencia, correo electrónico y dirección postal.

3. Agradecimientos (si los hubiera).

4. Título abreviado del trabajo en el idioma del texto.

Tercera página y siguientes:
1. Título del trabajo en el idioma del texto.

2. Resumen en idioma del texto (150 a 175 palabras). Reseñas, Cartas y Off Topics no requieren de resumen ni de palabras claves.

3. Palabras claves, entre tres y ocho en el idioma del texto. Se debe incluir el tipo de artículo.

4. Resumen y palabras claves en idioma alternativo (150 a 175 palabras). Si el texto no está escrito en inglés el segundo resumen y las palabras claves deben estar escrito en inglés al igual que las.

Páginas restantes:
1. No es necesario titular el comienzo como Introducción.

2. Se continua con el texto manuscrito divido en las secciones delimitadas según tipo de documento (caso clínico, revisión, reporte de investigación).

3. Tablas y figuras en numeración correlativa, deben estar referidas en el texto señalando el lugar de aparición. E incluidas a continuación de las referencias, al final del documento, cada tabla o figura en una página por separado.

Características generales de las secciones y artículos

La extensión de las diferentes secciones se refiere fundamentalmente a su contenido, excluyendo portada, resumen, referencias, tablas y figuras.

Editorial
De estilo y extensión libre es solicitada a algún autor de interés por el cuerpo editorial.

Artículos Reportes de investigación o Artículos Empíricos
Su extensión debe estar cerca de las 8.000 palabras y debe seguir la siguiente estructura:

1. Resumen: Extensión de entre 150 a 175 palabras. Señalando el tema que aborda el artículo, problema o pregunta de investigación, justificación; un resumen de la metodología (tipo de estudio, muestra, procedimientos de análisis); principales resultados y la conclusión general.

A continuación y sin titular se desarrolla la introducción, alcance, justificación y marco referencial. Esto se refiere al comienzo del texto. Debe responder a las preguntas sobre el tema del artículo, el estado de la cuestión, la importancia de abordar el tema y la justificación a la base de la pregunta que se pretende responder.

Junto con informar lo que se va a hacer debe clarificar al lector el tema de la publicación y motivar su lectura. Se aconseja señalar superficialmente el procedimiento realizado.

Este apartado, debido a que incluye la revisión bibliográfica debe contener un desarrollo de los temas y objetos de estudio principales con una cantidad adecuada y actualizada de citas bibliográficas. Pueden señalarse amablemente los objetivos e hipótesis.

Materiales, Método y Procedimientos:
Se aborda cómo se realizó la investigación y la seguridad en los métodos utilizados. En definitiva debe clarificar sobre lo que se hizo de modo que la investigación sea replicable o que se comprendan de manera profunda la consecución de los resultados. Incluye el tipo de estudio, la población (lugar) y el método de muestreo. Si es un artículo de análisis bibliométrico se deben señalar los criterios de inclusión y exclusión de artículos y las bases de datos utilizadas. Los instrumentos de medición e intervención citando a sus autores. Los procedimientos de desarrollo de la investigación y de análisis de datos.

Resultados:
Desarrollo en detalle del resultado de los análisis de datos. Comienza con el resultado del método muestral y se continua con los resultados que responden a los objetivos de la investigación. Puede ser aconsejable utilizar tablas y figuras. Los resultados estadísticos deben contar con la información que corresponda según la prueba utilizada. Se debe utilizar los mínimos comentarios respecto a los resultados, admitiéndose sólo cuando sirven para facilitar la comprensión y lectura.

Discusión:
Suele ser el apartado más extenso. Aquí se reflexiona, analizan e interpretan los resulta- dos. Se compara el estado de la cuestión señalado con los resultados obtenidos. Se confrontan otras publicaciones con los resultados obtenidos. Puede agregarse nueva bibliografía si algún fenómeno no ha sido abordado en el marco referencial introductorio. Se debe establecer causas y efectos, establecer posibles generalizaciones, aplicaciones técnicas y teóricas, aclarar excepciones, sugerencias y debilidades del estudio.

Conclusiones:
De forma breve se señalan los objetos comprobados y los que no. Se señalan resultados generales y aplicaciones. Suele ser un apartado breve.

Referencias:
Contiene el material revisado y utilizado en la investigación. Se recomienda la presencia de artículos de no más de cinco años, salvo cuando su importancia haga necesaria la inclusión de referencias anteriores. Se debe ceñir a las Normas APA sexta edición.

Apéndices, conflictos de interés:
Es posible adjuntar material de interés (p.e. cuestionarios) o declarar la presencia o ausencia de conflictos de interés.

Artículos Teóricos:
Su extensión debe estar cerca de las 10.000 palabras y su estructura es libre. Si el artículo se orienta a un estudio de revisión bibliográfica de tipo empírico o meta análisis, su estructura y extensión debe seguir el de un Reporte de Investigación. Al menos debe contar con una introducción y conclusión. En la conclusión se debe dejar plasmada claramente la opinión del/los autores respecto al tema que aborda el artículo. En general se debe presentar el tema a bordar, las diferentes teorías presentes, y el modelo propuesto de forma justificada.

Un elemento fundamental en un Artículo Teórico es la amplitud de las referencias, las que deben ser actuales así como incluir las publicaciones fundamentales respecto al tema.

Casos Clínicos
Su extensión debe rondar las 4.000 palabras, considerando los siguientes apartados:

Presentación:
A modo de introducción se debe comenzar con la importancia del Caso o Problema en cuestión y le respuesta que brindará el artículo (p. e. ya sea diagnóstico tratamiento de la situación dada).

Descripción del Caso:

Reseñas o Recensiones: Comentario de Libros
Su extensión debe ser de unas 3.000 palabras. Se debe presentar el Libro a reseñar tanto a su autor como los contenidos principales. Puede adjuntarse referencias o bibliografía recomendada. Se debe concluir con la opinión del autor de la reseña respecto al libro comentado.

Entrevistas
De características y extensión variable según criterios del cuerpo editorial.

Off-Topic
Producción artística en relación al contenido de CNPs. De características y extensión variable según criterios del cuerpo editorial. Es posible enviar material artístico tales como dibujo, pintura, comic, poesía o narrativa, entre otras. Asimismo, se acepta el comentario de expresiones artísticas como Teatro o Películas que tengan alguna relación o relevancia con el campo que compete a la publicación.

Cartas y anuncios de actividades académicas.
De características y extensión variable según criterios del cuerpo editorial. Se enfatiza la discusión sobre los contenidos de la revista o el comentario reflexivo sobre hechos ocurridos en el ámbito mundial respecto a la temática de la revista.

- Tamaño de página A4 (21 cm x 29,7 cm)
- Margen: 2,5 superior e inferior.
- Letra Times New Roman, 12 pt
- Texto a doble espacio y alineado a la izquierda, excepto en tablas y figuras
- Dos espacios después del punto final de una oración
- Sangría (Indent) a 5 espacios en todos los párrafos
- Las tablas no tienen líneas separando las celdas (evitar líneas horizontales)
