Cuando el Cerebro Envejece
Abstract
André Aleman emprende una lucha contra los prejuicios que la sociedad en general tiene sobre el adulto mayor, siempre visto como un sinónimo de deterioro fÃsico y cognitivo, como un sinónimo de demencia. Prejuicios que como se encargará de mostrar el autor, distan, por fortuna para todos aquellos que superen la edad de 65 años, de lo que lo ciencia, en especial la neurociencias y la neuropsicologÃa del adulto mayor, tiene por enseñarnos, a saber: 1) que ser adulto mayor es en algunos casos un sinónimo de calma, sensatez, sabidurÃa y buena toma de decisiones en contextos inciertos, y 2) que con las recomendaciones adecuadas lo primero no será la cualidad excepcional de algunos casos, sino que será posible que gran parte de la población mayor pueda conservar su atención, sus memorias, su lenguaje, su empatÃa, su toma de decisiones, su mente.
